Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 454 g ground pork
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 yellow onion, grated
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • olive oil

Sauce

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup maple syrup, dark for its robust taste
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • white sesame seeds for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 195°C and on line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. First, prepare the meatballs: In a large bowl, mix 454 g ground pork, 1 egg, ¾ cup Italian breadcrumbs, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 grated yellow onion, 2 tbsp soy sauce, and 1 tbsp fish sauce.
  3. Shape about 25 meatballs from the mixture.
  4. Place the meatballs and spinkle olive oil on top.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes, until golden brown and fully cooked.
  6. Prepare the sauce: In a wok, mix ¼ cup soy sauce, ¼ cup maple syrup, the juice of 1 lime, 2 tbsp water, and 1 tsp cornstarch. 
  7. Once the meatballs are cooked, heat the sauce mixture to medium heat and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring until slightly thickened.
  8. Add the meatballs to the pan and toss to coat them evenly in the sauce.
    Serve the meatballs over the rice or couscous and garnish with white sesame seeds.
