caramelized tofu

Ingredients
  • 450g firm tofu, diced
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp) cornstarch
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) olive oil
  • 60 ml (¼ cup) maple syrup
  • 25 ml (1 tbsp) soja sauce
  • 7.5 ml (½ tbsp) ginger, in powder
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • Sriracha sauce (optional)
  • salt

Method

  1. Place the diced tofu in a bowl. Add the cornstarch and mix well until the tofu is well coated.
  2. In a wok, over high heat, heat the oil. Add the tofu and stir fry for 10-15 minutes or until the tofu is crusty and golden on all sides.
  3. During the cooking time, mix together the maple syrup, soja sauce, ginger and, if desired, the sriracha.
  4. Pour the sauce over the tofu. Continue cooking for 3-4 minutes or until there is no more liquid in the wok. Add a pinch of salt.
  5. Serve with rice and your favorite green vegetable. Garnish with green onions.
